Behind the Batteries: Meet Convergent’s Rotation Analysts

To achieve the global transition to renewable energy over the coming decades, millions of new experienced professionals are be needed. At Convergent Energy and Power (Convergent), we’re committed to supporting every employee’s career growth and goals and helping to develop the next generation of renewable energy professionals, with a focus on energy storage.
The energy storage sector is only about a decade old—which makes it all the more important that we help develop the workforce that will support not only our company, but the renewable energy transition more broadly. One example is our entry-level Rotation Analyst (RA) program, which provides opportunities for recent graduates and/or early career professionals to enter the rapidly growing energy storage sector and contribute immediately to projects across Convergent while acquiring the industry knowledge and skills that can serve as a foundation for a career in the industry.
We like to say that energy storage (typically in the form of battery storage) is the linchpin to the clean energy transition. Energy storage allows us to maximize renewables (i.e. store solar energy for when the sun is not shining), integrate more intermittent renewables onto the grid, and transition away from carbon-intensive peaker plants. You can learn more about energy storage here.
We caught up with the current RA class to learn what brought them to Convergent, what’s surprised them most about working in the energy storage sector, and how the program is helping them shape their careers.
What led you to Convergent?
Convergent stood out as a place where I could be a sponge in a fast-moving, ever-evolving space. I wanted a role that would challenge me daily, and the energy storage sector delivers. From my first interview to today, everyone’s been welcoming and genuinely excited about what they are working on.
What has been your favorite rotation so far at Convergent?
I’ve really enjoyed working with the Estimating team on our internal pricing model—it’s been a great way to build on the tools I use regularly. It’s also given me the chance to work closely with our Project Execution team, which I wouldn’t typically interact with
How do you like to spend your time outside the office?
I like to stay creative, whether building Legos, painting by numbers, or experimenting with whatever ingredients are in my fridge. I also play in a few recreational leagues around the city, and nothing beats catching a game at Yankee Stadium!
What’s the most interesting thing you’ve learned about the energy storage sector?
One of the most fascinating things I’ve learned is how energy storage sits at the intersection of technology, policy, and innovation. The sector is still evolving, and in many markets energy storage is just beginning to realize its full economic potential. It’s exciting to be part of a company like Convergent that is not only navigating that complexities of the industry but also shaping how energy storage will grow in the years ahead.
How has the RA program helped set you up for the rest of your career?
The RA program has been the perfect launchpad. Coming in, I had ideas about what I was good at, but the rotation experience showed me how much I enjoy, and can grow from, being exposed to totally different parts of the business. I’ve learned skills I didn’t expect to, met people I wouldn’t typically get to work with, and figured out how to navigate a fast-moving industry and business while keeping things fun.

What led you to Convergent?
I was drawn to renewable energy because I wanted to work in an environmentally-focused field while also building my technical and business skills. Everyone I spoke with at Convergent emphasized the positive culture and the opportunity to dive into meaningful work right away. Working at a forward-thinking and innovative company felt like the right place to gain real exposure and learn fast.
What has been your favorite rotation so far at Convergent?
My favorite has probably been my Capital Markets rotation. I’ve gotten to see what it takes to close financing transactions and how much expertise is involved. It’s been interesting to connect the technical side of building battery storage and solar PV systems with the modeling work I’ve done on the Analytics team.
How do you like to spend your time outside the office?
I cook a lot and love finding live music around the city. I’m also a big cyclist, so when the weather’s nice, I like biking out of the city for a change of pace!
What’s the most interesting thing you’ve learned about the energy storage sector?
One thing that has stuck with me is how much energy storage depends on collaboration across disciplines—technical, financial, regulatory—which makes this sector both challenging and exciting to work in.
How has the RA program helped set you up for the rest of your career?
The program has given me valuable exposure to different parts of the business and helped me figure out what kinds of work I enjoy. It’s one of the best ways to learn how energy storage systems really come together. RAs get a front-row seat to Convergent’s collaborative spirit and how every team works together to efficiently build and operate battery storage and solar PV systems.
What led you to Convergent?
With a degree in sustainability, I knew I wanted a job that would make a real environmental impact, and energy storage quickly stood out as a sector that is essential to the clean energy transition. After learning more about Convergent and hearing how positive everyone’s experiences had been, I knew it was the kind of place I wanted to be. I was especially drawn to the RA program since it offered the chance to explore different parts of the business, build new skills, and figure out where I’d thrive—something that felt particularly important having just completed my graduate degree.
What has been your favorite rotation so far at Convergent?
My favorite rotation has been working on Convergent’s Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) reporting and initiatives. I’ve loved diving into corporate sustainability, helping organize environmental events, spearheading our reporting efforts, and even attending a sustainability conference in Phoenix, AZ. It’s been incredible to take the lead on tangible processes so early in my career, and it’s shown me how much trust, ownership, and leadership opportunities RAs are given at Convergent.
How do you like to spend your time outside the office?
I’m happiest when I’m outdoors or in the kitchen. I love skiing, running, rollerblading, and preparing home-cooked meals.
What’s the most interesting thing you’ve learned about the energy storage sector?
One thing I’ve found especially exciting is how energy storage systems can charge from either renewable sources or from the electric grid itself, making clean energy use more reliable even when the sun isn’t shining or the wind isn’t blowing. That flexibility is what makes energy storage such a powerful tool for a more resilient, reliable, and sustainable electric grid.
How has the RA program helped set you up for the rest of your career?
The RA program has helped me grow my confidence, build communication skills, and collaborate with everyone from engineers to the C-Suite. It’s also given me space to explore where my skills are most impactful, which I know will shape the rest of my career.
